This paper explains how TATA Motors achieved Service Oriented Schematic Generation with Desired Wire Color Output while it is sent for Service Teams. Schematic Designers are generally not bothered about manual Styling part.Their Expectation is for the Tool to handle. Challenge was to improve Wire representation as seen in Service Schematic Manuals. This is achieved by Mapping & Integration of Library Defined Codes against that on Design .Earlier Application like VeSys which provided Direct Output for a given Schematic. But its scope is limited to Wire Color only.As an Add ON, Design Tool should enable generation of this Output and integrate it with Final Document. If we consider Real Time Scenario of OEM, for any such Schematics, there are several Dealers. Every Dealer wants to see this Output in a Generic and User friendly way. However this would basically work on Principle of proper Code Definition, assignment and mapping them on design, allowing Tool to extract and regenerate as per the Style Definition Besides the development, Though Final Output also includes all Features of Service Schematics like Functionality, Features, Specifications, Product Information, Fault Codes, Orientation Views and Diagnostics. This Automation helps to achieve defined representation in Universally accepted Generic format with little or no efforts by Designer to compile and End users to decode.
Achieved first time right in truck and bus wiring harness using Capital software

Implemented 1 st time capital software in Mahindra truck and bus division for wiring harness drawing. First time right was crucial target in Mahindra. Earlier we were fully depend on supplier for wiring harness drawing preparation. Supplier was taking approximate 1 month time to design wiring harness drawing, but with the help of capital software we prepared built to print harness drawing in short time.

Enhancing Product Cost Management at OEM’s through Digital Continuity

Currently at OEM’s, we release our BOM (Bill of Materials) of the entire wiring harness assembly kit to our Costing team for evaluating the total cost of the harness with the help of our vendor. The Costing team have a database of all the harness child parts along with the actual landing price but it is not linked to our digital database due to which we were not able to come out with the exact price of the harness set during the design stage itself. The Process of calculating the cost is manually driven through spreadsheets which is a very pain-staking process, time consuming & error prone due to human intervention. The above issues were addressed with the help of Total Value Management Tool & it helped us to enhance the Product Cost Management through digital continuity and also reduced the time of calculating the total cost of the harness kit drastically.
Productivity increase & Design Optimization using ECAD Tools

The electrical & electronics contents in Commercial vehicles are increasing. This leads to increase in design complexity. To handle this complexity, there is a need of specialist ECAD tools. Earlier engineers were designing electrical systems manually, subsequently started using drafting tools. However, there are challenges to use these tools. Tata Motors has adopted; Mentor Graphics make various ECAD tools, for designing their commercial vehicle electrical systems designs.
In this presentation, we will present, various challenges faced by our engineers and how we have tacked it successfully and further use of these latest techniques to fulfill various needs of internal and external Customers.
We have few suggestions to M/s Mentor Graphics to incorporate in their tools which will help us to address further increasing complexity with reducing overall design cycle.

Seamless approach to optimize copper content in Wiring Harnesses with Capital

Several times, inputs of Legacy Electrical Automotive circuits are obtained in a paper form from customers. The interest of the customer is to optimize on the Electrical circuits in order to achieve cost reduction. This is basically a reverse engineering process, in which CAPITAL tool chain plays a seamless implementation to achieve this objective. The input that is usually available in the form of wiring harness 2D drawing from the customer is recreated in CAPITAL Harness XC. Then the other CAPITAL Tool chain are seamlessly used to achieve the objective – creating schematics/ logical diagram from harness drawing & finally simulation. Simulation ensures that the proposed changes will actually work.

Now a days people are expect to do everything in their car that they would on mobile phones. Now the time for automotive industries to fill the gap of customer expectations for infotainment features. But the key problem that In-Vehicle Infotainment facing are Firmware updates and Vehicle Security. To address this problems HYPERVISOR (Virtualization) came to the picture. Hypervisor also called as virtual Manager is a program that allows multiple operating systems to the single hardware core and is a program that allows multiple operating systems to share a single hardware host. Each operating system appears to have the host’s processor, memory, and other resources all to itself. However, the hypervisor is actually controlling the host processor and resources, allocating what is needed to each operating system in turn and making sure that the guest operating systems (called virtual machines) cannot disrupt each other. This paper explains the importance, Benefits and Functionality of Hypervisor especially in the multifunctional automobile systems.

With the ever growing Electronic content in Automobiles today (40-45%), the differentiator is turning out to be the software and more precisely Embedded Software. Compliance to AUTOSAR is being mandated more-and-more. The realization of an AUTOSAR compliant Automotive Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is a complex activity. It begins with the precise Requirements management that requires a well-defined Architecture design (Hardware as well as Software). Some key aspects to be considered are Timing constraints that are so key to AUTOSAR 4.x. VSA provides seamless solution in achieving all these. Subsequently, the defined System needs to get into the implementation phase. This calls for required Configuration, RTE generation including for the BSW.
